Jalan yang Jauh, Jangan Lupa Pulang
Angga Dwimas Sasongko
A casual review of Jalan yang Jauh, Jangan Lupa Pulang (2023). Watching in the theater with my crush, expat struggles in London, family bonds, and a tearful ending.
“Watched in the theater with my crush. Deeply moving for anyone living abroad—so much warmth and family bonding.”
I watched this movie in the cinema with my crush. Jalan yang Jauh, Jangan Lupa Pulang is the sequel to Nanti Kita Cerita tentang Hari Ini (NKCTHI), directed by Angga Dwimas Sasongko.

Living Abroad & The Meaning of Home
The story centers on Aurora (Sheila Dara), who is studying art in London. In that cold city overseas, Aurora tries to find her own identity amidst a complicated, toxic romance with Jem (Ganindra Bimo). Thankfully, she finds a newfound home and warmth in her close friends, Kit (Jerome Kurnia) and Honey (Lutesha).
Things escalate when her siblings—Angkasa (Rio Dewanto) and Awan (Rachel Amanda)—fly to London after Aurora abruptly goes quiet and loses contact with home.
As someone currently living abroad in Malaysia, this movie hit home. Anyone living away from home will instantly relate to Aurora’s experience:
- The fierce desire to be independent and avoid troubling family back home.
- The quiet struggle of pushing through hardships alone so parents don’t worry.
- The heartwarming realization that no matter how far we travel, family remains the harbor that always welcomes us back.
Cinema Experience & Final Reflection
The pacing is gentle, relaxed, and easygoing… the perfect “time killer” movie to enjoy at the cinema with someone special.
Even though it flows smoothly without demanding intense brainpower, near the end when the siblings finally embrace and resolve their distance… my emotional guard broke wkwkwk. I ended up tearing up a little bit at the climax.
Watching a story about home and living abroad in a dark theater while sitting next to my crush added a layer of quiet comfort. A gentle reminder that “home” isn’t just a physical place—it’s the people who care about us unconditionally.
